The last film of the first half of our 76th season was enjoyed by most of the larger than expected audience (the single E even had a positive comment attached?!), with an overall appreciation score of 83.6%. Some of the comments received:
- Just the tonic! Mads is God!
- Excellent tragi-comedy film about the mid-life crises of a group of friends and a novel approach to dealing with their personal challenges.
- A great choice for pre-Christmas. A comedy with some touching and sad moments. Really good soundtrack.
- Very enjoyable and interesting insight into Danish society. A well-balanced examination of the pros and cons of alcohol and it’s wider impacts.
- Loved this film, best one so far this season. It was comedic but had heart. Would happily watch it again.
- Brilliant. We are alive – we have a duty to enjoy as much as our time here as possible while sharing our life with others. Lovely scenery, superb acting and tremendous music.
- Absolutely loved it. My husband liked some parts more than others, but I thought the whole thing (okay one of the 4 died but even so!) was brilliant and a really joyful evening. Just what was needed – excellent choice! Still enjoying that final dance … surely everyone there tonight was smiling behind their masks as they left.
- The most enjoyable film of the season so far. Liked how the relationships were developed, with each other, with the pupils and with alcohol. Makes a good point for drinking in moderation! Interestingly the second film in a row to end with a lead character jumping/flying off into the sky.
- This film was superb. Really wonderful to see such an excellent portrayal of male friendship without any one-upmanship. Excellent cinemaphotography too.
- A very thought-provoking look at alcohol and society. Wickedly entertaining and non-judgmental. An interesting choice for non-wine & cheese party.
- Totally engrossed from the first scene to the last. I don’t know if it is because of my age and life stage but I identified with the main characters, who all gave totally believable performances. The pleasures and evils of alcohol were explored intelligently and without preaching.
- The pleasurable and destructive effects of alcohol told in a compelling way.
- Engaging and rather disturbing insight into the dangers of alcohol, and our casual acceptance of its damaging effect in our society. But done so in a light and unpreachy manner.
- Well-acted and very believable. Excellent photography and brilliantly directed. Good insight into Danish lifestyle. Touching scenes around football and “Specs”.
- Excellent acting, ambiguous messaging, too long.
- Not my choice for a pre-Christmas film – good we couldn’t have wine and cheese … would have been a wake!
- Difficult to rate this one! A well-presented film with some ingenious scenes, but not one for me!
- An interesting black comedy on an unusual theme, enjoyed the dance at the end.
- Just didn’t like – characters did not ‘ring true’.
- Funny in places. Mads Mikkelsen excellent. Still undecided whether it’s good to drink alcohol or not !!!!
