Collective, the second film of our 77th season achieved an overall appreciation score of 84% and received a mostly appreciative, supportive reception. Some of the comments submitted:
- A stark look at political corruption. Well shot, no talking heads, camera was almost a character itself…
- It was a very difficult film to watch at times, but a great telling of a terrible story. As a documentary much of what was uncovered was almost unbelievable; truly a case of fact being stranger than fiction.
- This was one of the most interesting and terrifying documentaries I’ve watched in a long time. I will be highly recommending this to anyone who will listen. It reminded me of the film Erin Brockavich which I know was inspired by a real case. But to see it playing out in real life with real consequences really got me.
- It was a harrowing film & an extremely sad comment on Romanian government with a complete disregard of their people’s needs, especially in medicine. Amazing, dogged reporting to uncover & expose such awful behaviour. I was engrossed from the beginning to end.
- A bleak but well-made and thought-provoking film.
- Interesting and informative film – although the ending was odd, to say the least.
- Got better as it the story (and extent of corruption) widened. Had a sense it was from a bias rather than journalism but still a hard-hitting context. Good choice.
- Very difficult to watch because of subject matter.
- I found it engrossing, most interesting. A warning that we don’t let our much loved and needed state run health service go the same way.
- Having worked in NHS I found this good but very depressing.
- Interesting and thought provoking but not the best film to watch with subtitles (particularly low on screen) which prevented viewing the backgrounds and other items of interest. The film itself seemed a little disjointed in the edit stage and did not naturally flow between events. It could have had chapters, sic Taratino, for the main topics which might have made things clearer. It’s good to watch films that challenge, but this one may have gone a little far.
- I found this rather depressing and although well-made I would have preferred something lighter.
- The film added nothing to the synopsis but talking heads. Subtitles white on white frequently difficult to read.
