Reactions to Parasite

Parasite proved to be yet another favourite with most of our members who turned out to see it (several for the second time – or more!) despite it already having been screened elsewhere. All but three of the 78 responses rated it A or B, with an overall appreciation score of 91.0%. The only adverse comments were about the sound quality and the gory ending.

Some of the comments received:

  • It was just as good on second viewing.
  • Really enjoyed this double Oscar winning film, excellent storyline that draws you in to all of its characters; surprising and shocking end.
  • Extraordinary film, starting off as slightly off key gentle comedy before becoming something much more black.
  • Second watching and want to see it again. The film that just keeps giving.
  • Powerful and compelling, a masterpiece on social conflict.
  • A marvellous film, well worth seeing again. A strong credible plot with a change of direction halfway through. Seeing it a second time I saw many more nuances and details.
  • I had been wanting to see this film since it won an Oscar and it certainly lived up to expectations. Wonderful acting and have an insight into Korean life.
  • A bit of everything, funny, sad, violent. What an enterprising lot.
  • Another excellent film well done! The subject matter/storyline on all the films this year as been so unusual & so interesting & diverse.
  • Original, layers of meaning and metaphor. A welcome glimpse into Korean culture.
  • Humour to horror – brilliant!
  • Absolutely loved the film. Amazing story arc and impactful and made me think way after the film ended.
  • I’m still not sure what I think of this film as the first half was so funny but then it descended into horror and tragedy. The ending seemed hopeless and not in keeping with the rest of the film.
  • Clever plot. Very clever ending!
  • An odd collection of genres and sequences that didn’t quite hang together and was a bit long. But entertaining for all that.
  • Insane but imaginative.
  • Entertaining first half before turning dark but rather spoilt by the bloodbath at the end.
