The Eclectic Cinema is showing The Manchurian Candidate

The Eclectic Cinema is showing The Manchurian Candidate on Monday 17th April 2023 at 8.15pm.

The Manchurian Candidate (USA 1962 126min 12) is directed by John Frankenheimer starring Frank Sinatra, Laurence Harvey, Janet Leigh and Angela Lansbury.

This is the original, not the remake! Laurence Harvey plays a Korean War veteran, brainwashed by communists and programmed to assassinate a US presidential nominee with a view to Soviet overthrow of the USA. US-Soviet relations were at a low point in 1962, when the film was released, with the Cuban Missile Crisis in October that year.

Angela Lansbury won a Golden Globe for best supporting actress, so this is also a nod to her passing, in October 2022.  Watch the trailer here.

(This is also being screened with Good Night, and Good Luck. as a double bill and tickets are £7.50 for one film or £12.00 for two films).

Tickets are available online here or alternatively you may telephone the box office on 01242 522852. They endeavour to operate the box office for personal and telephone callers from 10am – 4pm Tuesday – Friday and from 10am – 2.30pm on Saturdays, plus 90 minutes before a performance in the evening.

Also, under a sponsorship scheme funded by CFS, we are able to offer a limited number of complimentary tickets for screenings by The Eclectic Cinema. Members of CFS will receive an email giving details of how to apply for tickets shortly before each of these screenings.
